How we work

How we match care to your family.

  1. 01

    01 · Screening

    Screened, not signed up.

Every caregiver is interviewed live by our team, reference-checked with past families, criminal record screened, and CPR-certified. Vulnerable sector checks where required. No app screenings. No auto-approvals.

  2. 02

    02 · Matching

A real person matches your family.

Sunhouse is run by sisters, not an algorithm. We learn the details that matter before the booking: ages, routines, allergies, the household, and what would make life easier for a busy family. Then we match a caregiver who actually fits.

  3. 03

    03 · Continuity

A trusted caregiver your child knows.

Request your favourite caregiver when schedules line up. Continuity matters for children, especially at bedtime, on travel days, and through the busy weeks.

Local, sister-led

Sunhouse is a local agency led by sisters Nicole and April Hughes.

Families are not left to compare strangers, send messages, and hope someone replies. Caregivers join our roster only after live interviews, reference checks, criminal record screening, and CPR or First Aid verification. The goal is a smaller, trusted team your family can return to.

What families say after working with us.

Our experience with Sunhouse feels more like a personal relationship, uniquely fit to us. That is a far cry from other nanny services which feel more like click and collect.

Common questions

How much does a Babysitter cost in Vancouver?

Sunhouse Babysitter rates start at $22 per hour for one child, $24 for two, and $26 for three. Newborn care is $35/hour for ages 0 to 3 months, and $25/hour for ages 4 to 6 months. After 6 months of age, regular babysitting rates apply. Airbnb and hotel bookings are $28/hour, and overnights are $450 for a 24-hour period.

There is an agency booking fee of $35 +GST per booking, or a monthly babysitting membership starting at $29 +GST. Rates are paid directly to the sitter. The booking fee covers screening, matching, and support.

For Nanny placements, the search fee is $500 +GST to begin the search, plus 10% of the Nanny's annual gross compensation on successful placement. Contact us for a personalized quote.

How do I book a Babysitter in Vancouver through Sunhouse?

Booking is entirely online and self-serve through our babysitting page. Select your date and time, submit your request, and we match you with the most suitable sitter from our trusted roster. You receive their full profile when the booking is confirmed, and you can request the same sitter again for future bookings.

If you are new to Sunhouse and not sure where to start, book a free 15 to 30 minute consultation call first and we will walk you through it.

What is the difference between a Nanny and a Babysitter?

A Babysitter is hired for short-term, on-demand care: a few hours, an evening out, a weekend trip. Babysitters typically do not drive routines or develop long-term relationships with the family.

A Nanny is a long-term caregiver placed with one family on a regular schedule, whether full-time, part-time, travel, or overnight. Nannies handle routines, meals, school runs, and developmental activities, becoming a consistent figure in the children's lives. They also carry the mental load that usually falls to parents, often moms: tracking schedules, anticipating needs, and keeping the daily rhythm running so you do not have to.

Sunhouse offers both babysitting and Nanny placements in Vancouver. If you are not sure which is right for you, get in touch and we will help you decide.

Can I book last-minute babysitting?

Yes. Same-day babysitting bookings are possible depending on sitter availability, and members on a monthly babysitting membership get priority access for last-minute requests. Our on-call roster covers last-minute babysitting across Vancouver neighbourhoods including Downtown, Yaletown, Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant, Commercial Drive, and Point Grey, plus hotel and Airbnb stays throughout Metro Vancouver. Reach out as early as you can and we will confirm availability quickly.

How do Sunhouse babysitting memberships work?

Sunhouse offers monthly babysitting memberships at four levels starting at $29/mo +GST. Each membership covers a set number of bookings per month, 2, 4, 8, or 12+, with the per-booking agency fee included.

Members get priority Babysitter access for last-minute requests and predictable monthly billing instead of paying per booking. Memberships require a minimum two-month commitment before cancellation. Membership benefits cannot be combined with other promotions, referral credits, special-event pricing, or one-time custom childcare arrangements unless approved by Sunhouse in writing. Memberships are ideal for Vancouver families who book regularly or want consistent care for date nights, work, and weekend coverage. See pricing for more.
